Free Screening: James and the Giant Peach

  • Chrysler Museum of Art 1 Memorial Place Norfolk, VA 23510 (map)

Presented with the Chrysler Museum of Art and the U.S. Naval Academy Alumni Association: a very special screening of James and the Giant Peach to commemorate the upcoming Eric Carle: Moonlit Nights & Other Illustrations exhibition.

James & The Giant Peach (1996, PG) is a mesmerizing experiment in stop-motion animation using color, form, and style to create a dazzling visual adaptation of Roald Dahl's famous children's novel. The story shares the adventures of a young boy and his unsual group of friends as they journey from England to New York inside a giant peach. This dreamlike musical feature conjures the color, imagery, and wonder found in the work of Eric Carle's picture book art. Parents and children will be able to enjoy this family film while learning to recognize Carle's influences on the visual arts and the imagination.
